Founder
The Founder of the Institute was Dr. Jong Pil Lee, Distinguished Service Professor at SUNY College at Old Westbury. Dr. Lee was a 2005 United States Presidential Awardee for Excellence for Science, Math and Engineering Mentoring. In 2006 Dr. Lee became an inaugural inductee of the Long Island Mathematics Educators Hall of Fame. That same year he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from The University of Alberta (2006). In 2011, Dr. Lee was inducted into the New York State Mathematics Educators Hall of Fame. Additional awards include the Nassau County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recognition Award in 2009 and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Bowling Green State University in 2011.
Dr. Lee was a visionary and an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to have met him.
Director
The Director of the Institute is Mr. Arthur L. Kalish, an instructor for the Institute for many years. He is currently the Director of the Institute of MERIT (Mathematics Education, Research and Instructional Technology), an Institute that oversees the Creative Problem Solving Program. Mr. Kalish has been a member of the Advisory Board working very closely with Dr. Lee. In addition, he is on the advisory boards for MOEMS (Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools) and MoMath (National Museum of Mathematics). Besides working full-time at SUNY College at Old Westbury, he is the chief editor for MOEMS contests.
